The BBC confirmed that its series Call the Midwife season 12 has been delayed by a week. It is was announced via a tweet which stated that instead of the TV show, it will air BAFTA Film Ceremony this Sunday, February 19. The tweet added the Call the Midwife season 12 will air in two weeks time, that is Sunday, 26th February at 8 pm.
Earlier, it was confirmed that the series has been renewed for additional two seasons. The renewal will secure the series’ future till 2026 as the 13th season is already confirmed and will begin its production this spring. Season 14 and 15 to follow.
Reacting to the news of renewal, Heidi Thomas, creator, stated that she was thrilled to learn about the good news. She added, “We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I’m thrilled that we’re all heading into the 1970s together.”
Meanwhile, Dame Pippa Harris, executive producer, credited the dedication and passion of the cast and crew which assured the show’s renewal. He further termed show’s longevity as “tremendous achievement.”
Both the upcoming seasons – fourteenth and fifteenth – will have eight episodes with run time of about an hour. It will also have a Christmas special.
The series which premiered in 2012 follows a group of midwives who works alongside nuns at Nonnatus House in London’s East End. The series is based on real-life memoirs of Jennifer Worth, who worked as a mid-wife in East London during 1950s.
