Velma: Season 2 already under productions at HBO Max

Despite heavy criticism HBO Max’s Velma begin ground work for season two of Velma.

The mystery solving gang of Scooby-Doo franchise has spawned over numerous iterations over the years which includes TV shows, movies, video games in addition to live action productions. The mystery solving gang has nevertheless managed to maintain its unwavering popularity despites its numerous adaptions. Now, one of the member of the gang Velma gets her own stand-alone series which premiered on January 12.

Despite the first season bringing all various controversies and receiving overall low ratings, it has been reported by Deadline that the series has been renewed for new season which is already under production at HBO Max.

It is no secret that the protagonist on the show Velma is a queer and complex icon who likes girls on the adult animated series caused quite a few troubles for the Mindy Kaling backed show. However, the team behind the series has began laying ground work for season two with Channing Dungey, the chairman and CEO of Warner Television Group, confirming the news. A certain section of audience finds it delightful that Velma is projected as queer in both the television series and the 2022 film Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!, there were still some debates over whether the show offended the fans of the classic franchise.

Velma showcases the origins of the “unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang.” The series deviates from the original franchise as it involves plenty of violence and gore. The series mainly revolves around Velma but it also provide homage to a lot of original stories from Scooby-Doo.

In addition to serving as an executive producer, Mindy has also been the voice for Velma. Joining her in the impressive voice cast are Constance Wu as Daphne, Sam Richardson as Shaggy, Jane Lynch as Donna, Russell Peters as Aman, Glemm Howerton as Fred, Melissa Fumero as Sophie, Fortune Feimster as Olive, Wanda Skyes as Linda, Nicole Byer as Blythe, Sarayu Blue as Driya, Yvonne Orji as Gigi, and Kari Wahlgren as Evelyn, among others.
