Multiple spinoffs over hit series ‘Billions’ under production at Showtime
Showtime to expand the universe of its longest and one of the most successful series Billions with multiple spinoff series. This move comes after its collaboration with Paramount+.
Showtime has entered franchise business with its collaboration with Paramount+. The streaming network has multiple spin-offs of its longest running series Billions which includes Millions and Trillions. As per the reports by Entertainment Weekly, the Millions will be focused on the young up-and-coming people in the high stakes of the financial world while the Trillions will be a soapier exploration of the mega-rich, similarly to Dallas or Dynasty. There are also spin-offs in work with plot set in Miami and London.
This move to expand the universe of Billions comes after the successful attempt of expanding the Yellowstone which has turned out to be Paramount’s biggest hit. The streaming giant’s flagship series has expanded itself with spin-off series such as 1883, 1923 and soon to come Bass Reeves and 6666.
The decision to expand the universe of Billions which has now become Showtime’s longest-running series. The show debuted in 2016 revolves around the rivalry between unscrupulous hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod, played by Damien Lewis, and driven US Attorney Chuck Rhoades, played by Paul Giamatti, and their continuous attempts to destroy each other. Post season 5, Axelrod’s character was written out of the series, fleeing to Switzerland and his role at the hedge fund was taken over by Michael Prince, Corey Stoll in season 6. Despite the change in the star cast, the series managed to hold its position to be considered as best series by Showtime. Its seventh season will air later this year. The hit series also features David Costable, Maggie Siff, Condola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Asia Kate Dillon, Daniel Breaker, and Sakina Jaffrey in pivotal roles.
