9 Oscar-nominated movies of 2023 which are unmissable

Following is the list of 9 Oscar nominated movies which are a must watch. The list varies on different genres such as action, drama, romance and others.

We all have been looking for movie recommendations and often face the dilemma of what to watch since we don’t want to miss on the good content and at the same feel that our time is too precious to be wasted on watching mediocre material. What’s better than awards show for movie recommendations?

Every year during the awards season, we come across the collection of movies from all over the world. This brings us to the Academy Awards aka Oscars which to this date is used as a marker of prestige for a project. This year, the award ceremony witnessed diverse nominations and we feel some of them, even though did not bag an Oscar, are watch worthy.

The Banshees of Inisherin

The first on our list is a movie set during the Irish Civil War. The movie revolves around a man named Padraic who possess a dull personality, as a result of which his best friend Colm, a musician has stopped talking to him and went on to create a legacy through music. Padraic is hurt and tries his best to reconcile.

To his surprise, his former friend declares that every time he talks to him, the musician will cut off one of his own fingers. This leads to hijinks as Padraic does his best to trick Colm into befriending him again without approaching him.

The Whale

The movie is a tear-jerker for many reasons, one of which includes the lead actor Brendan Fraser, who was blacklisted from the Hollywood earlier for speaking out against the corruption in the industry. The movie showcases Fraser’s range as he helps Charlie with his obesity as it affects his life as well as the relationship with those around him which includes his only fried Nurse Liz and his wayward daughter.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

The movie follows a Chinese immigrant Evelyn who is a simple woman with simple problems. The problems remained simple until the IRS starts to investigate her, her husband tried to divorce, and her overbearing father decides to visit her.

As if that wasn’t enough, someone from parallel universe pays her a visit and told her that her alpha version had invented verse-jumping so she is required to stop a dangerous being from destroying the multiverse.

Tar

Chief conductor is at the top of her game as he has upcoming performance and also has a book on the way. She is also set with her relationships as her ex Francesca is her assistant, while her wife Sharon is her concertmaster. However, things go South when an ex, Krista, a fellow musician who was blacklisted, contacts her and then commits suicide.

Top Gun: Maverick

30 years after the events of Top Gun, the skilled fighter pilot Maverick returns to the Navy as a lowly test pilot. Things go down the hill for Maverick as he is assigned to a Top Gun school full of elite and jeering students who look down on him. He is now tasked with training the students for an important tactical mission, Maverick needs to pull all the stops before it’s too late.

RRR

The movie takes us back to the time when India was one of the British colonies. It tells the story of what would have gone down in the history if two iconic freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem had met and teamed up against the British. RRR takes elements to create a supercharged tale of epic proportions as Raju and Bheem, two leaders of different rebellions, becomes comrades after Raju, an officer in British army, was tasked take down Bheem.

All Quiet On The Western Front

The movie is set in the era of war wherein a 17-year-old boy Paul is asked to break the illusion as the glorification of World War I. Paul and his friends’ nationalistic idea of protecting ones’ country and dying for the honours’ sake is all shattered when they see that war is not a simple game but a chaotic front for destruction. The boys must do their best to survive while the political leader negotiate for peace.

Argentina, 1985

The Argentinian film, based on true events, showcases the trial of the Juntas in 1985, wherein the country’s last dictator was put on trial for his bloody rule. The film highlights the difficulties faced by public prosecutor Julio Strassera, who despite the backing of military and threats, takes it upon himself to create a case against the dictator.

Women Talking

In a small Bolivian community, the women realise that they are being drugged and then raped. The culprits are caught and imprisoned but most of the men go to bail them out. On learning this, the women must come up with a plan as the attackers are soon to return home.

Nominated for – Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay.
