The Flash showrunner drops major hint on what to expect in ninth and last season of the series
The Flash reaches its end with ninth and final season premiering on Wednesday on The CW.
The Flash starring Grant Gustin will reach its end with its upcoming ninth season. In an interaction with TVLine, Eric Wallace, showrunner, teased about what to expect from the upcoming 13 episodes of the final season. One storyline that Wallace is determined to wrap up is the relationship between Barry Allen aka The Flash and Iris West-Allen, played by Candice Patton. When the series began, Barry and Iris were best friend and the former had kept his feelings for his bestfriend hidden for a long time. Over the course of time, they began dating and eventually got married. The couple also met their future children Nora West-Allen, played by Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Bart Allen, played by Jordan Fisher.
In the past few seasons, the couple have remained estranged as Iris is being trapped in the Mirrorverse or because of her time sickness. Wallace has cited ‘character development’ as the reason for keeping the couple apart. He stated that it was important for them to stay apart as they wanted to level up Flash as a superhero and Iris as a journalist.
The final season will see the return of some of the old faces which includes Keiynan Lonsdale as Kid Flash/Wally West, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Bloodwork/Ramsey Rosso and Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS/Nora West-Allen. It will also feature characters from other shows such as Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie and Supergirl’s Nicole Maines.
Wallace added that the final season will also pay tribute to the first season as many of the things that were never resolved, will now be resolved.
The series upcoming ninth season will premier on Wednesday on The CW. The previous eight seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix.
